Abstract

• In February 2020, three CPI cities in Sumatera Utara had inflation, namely Sibolga by 0.69 percent; Pematangsiantar by 0.12 percent; Medan by 0.14 percent, while the other two cities were deflation namely, Padangsidimpuan by 0.01 percent, and Gunung Sitoli by 0.73 percent. Thus, the combined 5 CPI cities in Sumatera Utara in February 2020 inflation was 0.13 percent.
• In February 2020, Medan inflation was 0.14 percent or an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) 102.95 in January 2020 to 103.09 in February 2020. Inflation occurred due to price increases indicated, namely the food, beverage and tobacco by 0.42 percent; clothing and footwear group by 0,43 percent; health group of 0.37 percent; and the personal care and other services group of 0.98 percent. The deflation group was household equipment, equipment and routine maintenance by 0.04 percent and transportation by 0.78 percent. While other groups did not experience changes in the index.
• The main contributors to inflation in February 2020 in Medan include red chili, garlic, photocopy costs, potatoes, men's cotton short shirts, rice and mustard greens.
• Out of 24 CPI cities on Sumatra Island, 16 cities recorded inflation. The highest inflation in Jambi was 0.75 percent with CPI of 104.67 and the lowest in Bengkulu was 0.09 percent with CPI of 103.65.
