In August 2020, four CPI cities in North Sumatra had inflation, namely Pematangsiantar at 0.20 percent; Medan by 0.04 percent; Padangsidimpuan by 0.07 percent; and Gunung Sitoli with 0.61 percent. Meanwhile, Sibolga deflation of 0.01 percent. Thus, the combined 5 CPI cities in North Sumatra in August 2020 inflation of 0.06 percent.
In August 2020, Medan recorded inflation of 0.04 percent or an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 102.72 in July 2020 to 102.76 in August 2020. Inflation occurred due to an increase in prices indicated, namely the clothing and footwear group by 0.27 percent; the recreation, sports, and culture group by 0.05 percent; the education group of 0.08 percent; the food and beverage / restaurant supply group by 0.16 percent; and personal care and other services group by 2.18 percent. The expenditure groups that experienced a decrease in index were the food, beverage and tobacco group by 0.23 percent; the housing, water, electricity, and household fuels group of 0.04 percent; equipment, tools, and household routine maintenance group by 0.02 percent; health group by 0.02 percent; the transportation group of 0.38 percent; and the information, communication and financial services group of 0.01 percent.
The main commodities contributing to inflation during August 2020 in Medan include gold jewelry, red chilies, cooking oil, dencis fish, coconut, green mustard greens, and bird's eye chilies.
