September 2021, Medan City Experiences 0.31 percent inflation
In September 2021, four CPI cities in North Sumatra recorded inflation, namely Sibolga at 0.32 percent; Pematangsiantar by 0.31 percent; Medan by 0.31 percent; and Padangsidimpuan by 0.05 percent. Meanwhile, Gunungsitoli's deflation was 0.13 percent. Thus, the combined 5 CPI cities in North Sumatra in September 2021 inflation of 0.29 percent.
In September 2021, Medan inflation was 0.31 percent or there was an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 104.71 in August 2021 to 105.03 in September 2021. Inflation occurred due to an increase in prices from nine expenditure groups, namely the food, beverage group. , and tobacco by 0.80 percent; housing, water, electricity, and household fuel groups by 0.14 percent; household equipment, equipment, and routine maintenance group by 0.09 percent; health group by 0.05 percent; transportation group by 0.10 percent; information, communication, and financial services group by 0.02 percent; recreation, sports, and culture groups by 0.08 percent; food and beverage/restaurant supply group by 0.05 percent; and the personal care and other services group by 0.09 percent. On the other hand, the clothing and footwear group had a deflation of 0.03 percent, while the education group did not experience a change in the index.
The main commodities contributing to inflation during September 2021 in Medan include green mustard, filter kretek cigarettes, tomatoes, chicken meat, cooking oil, dencis fish, tuna/ambu-ambu fish.
Of the 24 CPI cities on the island of Sumatra, 18 cities recorded inflation. The highest inflation was in Pangkal Pinang at 0.60 percent with a CPI of 104.98 and the lowest was in Padang at 0.04 percent with a CPI of 105.20.
