In June 2022, inflation in North Sumatra
Province (combined of five cities, namely Sibolga, Pematangsiantar, Medan,
Padangsidimpuan, and Gunungsitoli) was 1.40 percent with a Consumer Price Index
(CPI) of 110.71. Of the five CPI cities in North Sumatra, all recorded
inflation, namely Sibolga at 1.12 percent; Pematangsiantar by 1.36 percent;
Medan by 1.39 percent; Padangsidimpuan 1.29 percent; and Gunung Sitoli by 2.72
percent.
Inflation occurred due to an increase in
prices as indicated by an increase in most indexes of the expenditure group,
namely the food, beverage and tobacco group by 3.39 percent; clothing and
footwear group by 0.28 percent; housing, water, electricity, and household fuel
groups by 0.07 percent; household equipment, equipment, and routine maintenance
group by 0.66 percent; health group by 0.06 percent; transportation group by
1.89 percent; information, communication, and financial services group by 0.01
percent; education group by 0.01 percent; and the food and beverage/restaurant
supply group by 0.08 percent. While the recreation, sports, and culture group had
a deflation of 0.02 percent. The personal care and other service groups did not
change.
The main commodities contributing to
inflation during June 2022 include red chilies, air transportation, shallots,
dencis fish, cayenne pepper, green chilies, and chicken eggs.
The inflation rate for the calendar year
(January-June 2022) is 4.18 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (June
2022 to June 2021) is 5.61 percent.
