Abstract

Farmers Terms of Trade (NTP) is a comparison of the price index received by farmers (It) to the price index paid by farmers (Ib).

NTP is one indicator to see the level of ability/purchasing power of farmers in rural areas. NTP also shows the exchange power (terms of trade) of agricultural products with goods and services consumed as well as for production costs.

In January 2023, the Sumatera Utara Province's NTP (2018=100) was recorded at 123.78, down 0.63 percent compared to December 2022's NTP, which was 124.56.

The decrease in January 2023 NTP was caused by a decrease in the NTP of three sub-sectors, namely the NTP in the Horticulture sub-sector by 0.11 percent, the NTP in the People's Plantation Plants sub-sector by 1.51 percent, and the NTP in the Livestock sub-sector by 0.58 percent. Meanwhile, the NTP of two other sub-sectors experienced an increase, namely the NTP of the Food Crops sub-sector by 1.34 percent and the NTP of the Fisheries sub-sector by 0.12 percent.

Changes in the Household Consumption Index (IKRT) reflect rural inflation/deflation rates. In January 2023, there was rural inflation in Sumatera Utara of 1.02 percent.

The Agricultural Household Business Exchange Rate (NTUP) for Sumatera Utara Province in January 2023 was 121.53 or decreased by 0.16 percent compared to the previous month's NTUP.
