Abstract

• The economy of Sumatera Utara in 2018 measured based on Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) on the basis of current prices reached Rp. 741.19 trillion and GDP per capita reached Rp. 51.42 million.
• The economy of Sumatera Utara in 2018 grew 5.18 percent higher than the achievement in 2017 of 5.12 percent. In terms of production, the highest growth was achieved by the Information and Communication Business Field at 8.43 percent. In terms of expenditure, the highest growth was achieved by the consumption of non-profit institutions serving households at 11.38 percent.
• The economy of Sumatera Utara quarter IV-2018 if compared to the fourth quarter of 2017 (y-on-y) grew 5.30 percent. In terms of production, the highest growth was achieved by Information and Communication Business Fields of 9.18 percent. In terms of expenditure, the highest growth was achieved by the consumption of non-profit institutions serving households at 13.99 percent.
• The economy of Sumatera Utara quarter IV-2018 when compared to the previous quarter (q-to-q) experienced a slowdown of 0.30 percent. In terms of production, this was triggered by a decline in the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Business Field by 1.68 percent. In terms of expenditure, it was caused by a decline in the Export of Goods and Services Component by 0.21 percent.
• The economic structure on the island of Sumatra spatially in 2018 is dominated by Riau Province which has a contribution of 23.36 percent; followed by Sumatera Utara at 22.92 percent and South Sumatra at 12.98 percent.
