Abstract

In September 2021, (the level of inequality in population spending as measured by) North Sumatra's Gini Ratio was recorded at 0.313. This figure decreased by 0.001 point when compared to the Gini Ratio in March 2021 and the Gini Ratio in September 2020, both of which were 0.314.

  • The Gini Ratio in urban areas in September 2021 was recorded at 0.339, a decrease of 0.005 points compared to the Gini Ratio in March 2021 which was 0.344. In contrast, the Gini Ratio in rural areas in September 2021 was recorded at 0.257, an increase of 0.007 points compared to the Gini Ratio in March 2021 which was 0.250.

  • Based on the World Bank's inequality measure, the distribution of expenditure for the bottom 40 percent of the population in September 2021 is 21.78 percent. This means that population spending is still in the category of low inequality level. If broken down by region, in urban areas the figure is recorded at 20.50 percent and in rural areas the figure is recorded at 24.33 percent, which means both are also in the low inequality category.
