Abstract

In December 2022, the combined year on year (yoy) inflation of five cities in Sumatera Utara (Sibolga, Pematangsiantar, Medan, Padangsidimpuan and Gunungsitoli) was 6.12 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 112.77. Of the five CPI cities in Sumatera Utara, the highest yoy inflation occurred in Sibolga at 6.43 percent with a CPI of 115.10 and the lowest occurred in Gunungsitoli at 5.74 percent with a CPI of 114.65.
Inflation occurred due to price increases as indicated by an increase in the entire price index for the expenditure group, namely the food, beverage and tobacco group by 7.35 percent; the clothing and footwear group by 4.66 percent; the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group of 1.49; equipment, tools, and household routine maintenance group of 5.29 percent; the health group by 1.91 percent; transportation group of 18.73 percent; the information, communication and financial services group by 0.17 percent; recreation, sport and culture group by 8.05 percent; the education group by 0.56 percent; the group providing food and drink/restaurants by 4.09 percent; and the personal care and other services group of 8.12 percent.
The main commodities contributing to yoy inflation in December 2022 include gasoline, air freight, rice, filter clove cigarettes, inner-city transportation, dencis fish, and tomatoes.
The December 2022 month to month (mtm) inflation rate is 1.50 percent and the December 2022 year to date (ytd) inflation rate is 6.12 percent
