Abstract

In May 2024, year on year (y-on-y) inflation in Sumatera Utara Province will be 4.26 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 107.10. The highest inflation occurred in Karo Regency at 5.37 percent with a CPI of 108.05 and the lowest occurred in Gunungsitoli City at 3.51 percent with a CPI of 105.89.

Y-on-y inflation occurred due to an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the index for all expenditure groups, namely: the food, beverage and tobacco group by 9.97 percent; clothing and footwear group at 2.33 percent; housing, water, electricity and household fuel group at 0.53 percent; equipment, tools and routine household maintenance group of 0.85 percent; health group by 1.73 percent; transportation group by 0.80 percent; information, communication and financial services group at 0.14 percent; recreation, sports and culture group at 1.69 percent; education group at 1.54 percent; food and beverage/restaurant provision group at 1.42 percent; and the personal care and other services group at 3.99 percent.

The month to month (m-to-m) inflation rate is 0.48 percent and the year to date (y-to-d) inflation rate is 1.98 percent.
